She said she only had one weekend, so I promised her to create a plan, so she could make most out of her weekend and experience &#8220;Berlin in a nutshell&#8221;. I lived in Berlin for about 10 years, so I dare to say I know the city. Not every detail &#8211; but most of it. In terms of tourist attractions maybe even more than Berlin-born friends.<\/p>\n<h1>Walking tours<\/h1>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a map of this walking tour:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_976\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Click here to see it on Google Maps<\/a>!<\/p>\n<h2>Part 1 (Day 1 if you have an entire weekend)<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>start at <em>Berliner Fernsehturm<\/em>, called &#8220;TeleSpargel&#8221; by the Berliners, which literally translates to &#8220;TV asparagus&#8221;\n<ul>\n<li>reserve your tickets so you don&#8217;t have to wait in line for hours like a tourist \ud83d\ude09<br \/>\n<a title=\"Berliner Fernsehturm Reservierung\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tv-turm.de\/en\/reservierung.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.tv-turm.de\/en\/reservierung.php<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>when leaving the <em>TV Tower<\/em> (or starting your tour at <em>Alexanderplatz<\/em>) head towards <em>Marienkirche<\/em>, which is the church right next to <em>TV Tower<\/em><\/li>\n<li>head towards the <em>Berlin Cathedral (Berliner Dom)<\/em> which is the biggest protestant church in Germany<\/li>\n<li>now you&#8217;re already &#8220;<em>Unter den Linden<\/em>&#8221; (Berlins Champs Elysee)\n<ul>\n<li>one side-track might lead you to <em>Gendarmenmarkt<\/em> with the <em>State Opera<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>walk and enjoy until you reach <em>Brandenburg Gate<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>there are actually several &#8220;gates&#8221; in Berlin<\/li>\n<li><em>Brandenburg Gate<\/em> was the outside (!!!) border of Berlin towards Brandenburg (a city in the surrounding federal state of Brandenburg)<\/li>\n<li>you can see a new &#8220;version&#8221; of <em>Frankfurter Tor<\/em> on your bar-trip<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>pass the gate<\/li>\n<li>pass by the highly secured US embassy (probably now the NSA knows about this blog post now)<\/li>\n<li>stroll through the <em>Holocaust Memorial<\/em> in devout silence<\/li>\n<li>head towards the skyscrapers at <em>Potsdamer Platz<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>if you want enjoy one more amazing view from the new york style skyscraper: <a title=\"Panoramapunkt Potsdamer Platz\" href=\"http:\/\/www.panoramapunkt.de\/en\/panoramapunkt.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.panoramapunkt.de\/en\/panoramapunkt.html<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Part 2 (or Day 2)<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>from <em>Potsdamer Platz<\/em> stroll through <em>Tiergarten<\/em>, which was entirely chopped down after WWII, because people needed wood to heat their bombed homes<\/li>\n<li>seek the <em>Siegess\u00e4ule<\/em> (&#8220;Victory Column&#8221;) in the middle of the <em>Tiergarten<\/em>, it gives you a wonderful view on the whole city and a nice panorama <strong>including<\/strong> the TV tower<\/li>\n<li>from there head to S-Bahnhof (train station) <em>Bellevue<\/em> (if you make it two tours, you can also go via <em>Bellevue<\/em> to the <em>Siegess\u00e4ule<\/em><\/li>\n<li>take the train to <em>Hauptbahnhof<\/em> (Berlin Central Station)<\/li>\n<li>exit towards river Spree, pass the Berlin white house (Helmut Kohl, German chancellor for 16 years called it that, when talking to Bill Clinton I think), where the chancellors work, head towards the Reichstag building\n<ul>\n<li>many people still call it <em>Reichstag<\/em>, which literally means the institution &#8220;<em>parliament of the Reich<\/em>&#8221; (!) but since there is no &#8220;Reich&#8221; anymore it&#8217;s called the Reichstags-Building, seat of the German parliament &#8220;<em>Bundestag<\/em>&#8220;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I think one can&#8217;t see more of Berlin in one\/two days. At least not more efficiently than with these walking tours. And especially since the city is covered with Bus- (and train-) stations you can at any time stop your walk, head home and relax \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<h1>Going out<\/h1>\n<p>Check out <a title=\"Simon-Dach-Kiez to Kreuzberg\" href=\"https:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?saddr=Frankfurter+Allee%2FB1%2FB5&amp;daddr=Simon-Dach-Stra%C3%9Fe+to:Oberbaum+Bridge,+Berlin,+Germany+to:G%C3%B6rlitzer+Bahnhof,+Kreuzberg,+Germany&amp;hl=en&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;ll=52.50499,13.447394&amp;spn=0.016953,0.031199&amp;sll=52.499138,13.437867&amp;sspn=0.016956,0.031199&amp;geocode=FWtTIQMdeEzNAA%3BFXQ3IQMdqVDNAA%3BFfoaIQMdsSfNACknOhvAUU6oRzG6kcSFlM-yHw%3BFQsSIQMdzejMACmdkJXySk6oRzH8vCHyBi232Q&amp;oq=go&amp;t=h&amp;dirflg=w&amp;mra=ls&amp;z=15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this tour<\/a> that leads you from <em>Frankfurter Tor<\/em> via <em>Simon-Dach-Kiez<\/em> (as I would call it now &#8220;Little Dublin&#8221; (because like in Dublin there are lots of bars\/pubs in a row) down to <em>Kreuzberg<\/em>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>take the U5 from <em>Alexanderplatz<\/em> -&gt; get off <em>Frankfurter Tor<\/em><\/li>\n<li>head towards Boxhagener Str.<\/li>\n<li>walk the whole <em>Simon-Dach-Str.<\/em>\n<ul>\n<li>until here you should have already found a cocktail bar<\/li>\n<li>this street is awesome for hopping from one bar to the next, some even have live music<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>if you don&#8217;t find anything continue south towards <em><b>Oberbaum Bridge<\/b><\/em>, which is more impressive by day and also worth seeing<\/li>\n<li>cross it and enjoy <em>Berlin Kreuzberg<\/em>, the most multicultural of all Berlin districts\n<ul>\n<li>you&#8217;ll find cocktail bars and exotic restaurants here<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Museums &amp;
