Robert’s highlights of 2025 gaming in review: Age of History II and Wartales
Age of History II was one of two absolute highlights this year: Easy to learn, hard to master on higher levels of difficulty. Extremely addictive (just one more turn) and challenging against a relentless AI. Achievements are a bit of a grind, but hey, there are countless worlds to conquer!
The second highlight and still is Wartales! What an amazing game, both in single player and co-op. Really hard to describe:
Wartales is an open world RPG in which you lead a group of mercenaries in their search for wealth across a massive medieval universe. Explore the world, recruit companions, collect bounties and unravel the secrets of the tombs of the ancients!

However that doesn’t quite kick it: The turn-based combat system is pretty amazing and leaves enough room to make it even harder. The world is pretty amazing even though not that flexible that many play-throughs would yield surprises and variety. That doesn’t dampen the fun however, because you can just form an entirely different party which shakes things up sufficiently.
Steam Replay 2025:
Does this ever get boring? Even after more than a decade post release, Civilization 5 was leading the pack of games being played in 2025. Followed by the two highlights above. Here’s my complete overview!
2026 outlook
Wartales will probably still play a big role, despite continuing in singleplayer. Civ 5 is still going strong and as long as the Multiplayer Community of GIANT MULTIPLAYER ROBOT has a few dozen really active players that probably won’t change. Let’s see if we can keep this up until old age…
